Retrospective

Retrospective (oops abit late)

What is similar and what is different?

What is similar? A familiar structure within the blog, planning, research of other videos and looking at other companies and presenting ideas of what I would like to do etc etc. However for this I feel like I am being more detailed (Probably not enough I admit but I’m working away to get it on), I feel like we need for this project to be more detailed and clearer and more prolific in our work (Again guilty of not being it). Although for the project this time, we are going to do numerous runs of the shots (something I didn’t do last time) and as for the Live peformance, we going to do lots of run throughs with different camera angles, so that incase when we do our proper shots, and if they go badly, we can use our run-through footage as a backup.

What lessons did you learn?

Plan, Detail and make sure you track others to keep up with everyone else,  also be prepared incase something goes wrong, I can’t saying yet about when we film (No doubt something will happen), but as Qui gon Jinn says ‘Be prepared for the unexpected. Will be update when we finish filming

How have you made sure that you didn't make the same mistakes or that you achieved the same successes?

Well for the filming we can’t quite say just yet, however to prevent my mistakes, like I said we are going to film full run throughs in one shot in different angles so we have enough footage, I’ll edit this post accordingly to see if we had the same success.

How will you make sure that your shoot and edit run more smoothly than last time?

To ensure our shooting is more smooth, we are giving ourselves plenty of time to film and enough ‘Contingency’ time incase something goes wrong, Editing wise, to make sure we get it done quicker, we are editing on katie’s laptop and rendering it all on my pc (My pc can render these things insanely quick and in HD.

Editing Idea (DREDD)

I know I’m jumping the gun here but after seeing the film DREDD 3D I had a an idea for our music video. Throughout the alternative rock one of the main conventions of it is that they usually explore the idea and the use of drugs and the impact of how it has on the ‘Teen culture’. And often how this is present is in a very stylised way, either through a an unusual camera shot or through very stark editing.

So looking at this screenshot of the ‘Slo-mo drug’, we can clearly see a very high contrast and lighting within the shot, they use these very stark editing techniques to show how drugs effect the brain and change the perception of what we see. In our clip I would love to use something very similar to this briefly within the song, to portray how drugs are in teen culture.

As for actual editing, I would have very much similar in the sense with the high contrast and high exposure, with it in the shot turning into that type of edit and possibly with it changing the hue (or colour) very quickly along the colour spectrum. An idea reece had was that it could be in a pov shot, as we don’t see many POV shots in Alternative rock so it would be a nice idea to toy around with it, also aswell with a POV shot we could give the effect that it’s actually the view who is taking the drug also.

Katie has said that she knows a possible way we may be able to pull off this effect, and with the help of James we maybe be able to!

Update 3.0

We have actors and a plan of action!

We have decided on our actors for our clip, who will be Emily as the main Female protagonist, and Reece (the same one in our group) as the male protagonist. As we shall be filming  on Friday and Sunday, with the live performance on Friday and the Narrative section on Sunday. I need to gather the props and equipment needed for firday, like the music equipment such as drums, guitars, microphone and the stand, AMPs and other various bits and pieces. For the live performance we are thinking of filming it in one straight shot numerous times in different ways, so that we have a lot of footage to pull from incase that if a shot we do from a storyboard goes awry we can hopefully replace it from another. Our time frame of filming is this week, and we hope to be finished this week and be able to convert and edit afterwards and be able to do it efficently as possible since me and Katie both have the diting software at home.

Delegation of Roles

For our media project we have decided to split our roles and allocated to each

Update 2.0

Literally just come back from cyrpus, and have been unable to do much work and unable to contact katie or Reece (Cyprian Wifi is awful), however I have in fact done some Digipack research whilst i was away. On tuesday i will catch up with reece and Katie (I have spoken to them briefly, and we do need to do a storyboard properly and have a schedule asap) I personnally would like to start filming on sunday, however katie dislikes that idea and we need to find a time that will suit us all.

The Killers Digipack

(I'm aware some of these are upside down, and to counter it you will probably have to save the pictures to your computer and rotate them, or just turn your head upside down)

The Killers are an indie/alternative rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Their album Hot Fuss is considered the album that really kick started their career. The digipack is quite effect due to it's simplistic style, with a not too busy front cover of a blue sky and faded skyscrapers. The booklet itself continues with this simplistic theme, as the whole booklet is just the  band members in various shots with stark lighting with a black background.

This could show us for our project that we don't need to have a massively flash style album cover, that we could go for something simplistic and practical, and which will also go towards the conventions of artistic integrity.
